Behold the marvel deemed the lengthiest ongoing construction odyssey across the globe, an endeavor commencing in the annals of the 7th century BC and reaching its triumphant denouement only in the year 1893. It beckons comparison to the witticism that contends, “So you cast your gaze upon this world, and lo, these cobblestones!” To offer you a glimpse into this monumental feat, indulge in a succinct video chronicle documenting our traverse through this hallowed canal.
The vertiginous walls, soaring to heights exceeding 75 meters, impart the illusion that some colossal scoop, of mythic proportions, meticulously carved the canal, cleaving the Peloponnese peninsula from the contiguous mainland and metamorphosing it into a self-contained isle. The canal spans approximately 20 meters in width, stretches an impressive 6 kilometers in length, and delves to a depth of 8 meters. A solitary railway bridge and three road bridges elegantly arch over the canal, tempting thrill-seekers to sporadically partake in the daring art of bungee jumping. Additionally, two submerged bridges grace both extremities of this aquatic spectacle.
Throughout the epochs, erudite minds and potentates harbored dreams of birthing such a canal. Some embarked on the endeavor, only to swiftly concede to the enormity of the task. Yet, in the 19th century, the Greeks, fueled by visionary zeal and the ingenuity of Hungarian engineers, transformed this dream into reality. The excavation of the canal unfolded over a decade, rendering it, in essence, a construction saga of considerable but not interminable duration.

Prior to our ingress into the canal, the sea bore a countenance of relative tranquility. Mirroring this serenity, the canal itself echoed a calmude. However, as our vessel emerged from the canal’s confines, ushering us into the Corinthian Gulf, a tempest unfurled its tumultuous dance! Formidable currents, whirlpools swirling in a choreography of nature’s making, the wind surging to a formidable 30 knots, and waves ascending to an imposing height of 2 meters. The once radiant smiles on the countenances of the crew began to wane. Abruptly, the realization dawned that our maritime sojourn had merely embarked upon its preliminary trials. Yet, these were but the inaugural tribulations in a saga destined for nautical intricacies and undulating challenges.
